Application forms for all the courses can be obtained from 5th January 2004 on request to: The Dean, College of Nursing, Christian Medical College Vellore-632 004, Tamil Nadu, India by sending the prescribed fee (see table above) as crossed demand draft drawn in favour of CMC, Vellore association payable at State Bank of India, Vellore Town Branch code 1618. No other mode of payment will be accepted. SPECIFY THE COURSE FOR WHICH YOU NEED THE APPLICATION FORM.

Last date for issuing the application form by post is 17 February 2004 and by hand is 28 February 2004. Last date for receiving filled in application for M.Sc. Nursing & B, Sc Nursing for Trained Nurses is 28 February 2004. Last date for receiving filled in application for the Post Basic programmes in Nursing is 15th March 2004.

ELIGIBILITY

 

I. M.Sc. DEGREE IN NURSING (2 YEARS)

 

  1. Passed the qualification of B.Sc Nursing Degree of the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai or any other university accepted as equivalent there to.

 

  1. Should have registered with the state registration council of Nursing and Midwifery.

 

  1. B.Sc. Nursing graduates should have had on or before 15th May 2004 a minimum of 2 years of experience after registration in any teaching hospital or in a College/School of Nursing or in a Community Health Nursing Programme.

 

  1. B.Sc. graduates who have passed B.Sc. degree programme for Trained Nurses need not have 2 years of experience after graduation for admission to the programme.  They can be admitted soon after graduation.

 

  1. Male candidates should have passed any other course prescribed by INC in place of Midwifery.  These candidates are not eligible for admission to Branch III irrespective of their experiences in the area.

 

  1. Candidates should be Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives.

 

  1. Candidates should be medically fit.

 

  1. All candidates who gain admission have to submit the eligibility certificate from the Tamilnadu     Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai at the time of final registration for admission.

 

II. B.Sc. NURSING FOR TRAINED NURSES (2 YEARS)

 

  1. Must be a Diploma holder in Nursing

 

  1. Must be a Registered Nurse and Midwife, registered with the Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council or any other State Nursing Council accepted by the University.

 

  1. Should have put in on or before 15th May 2004 a minimum of 2 years of experience after registration in any institution / hospital or as a full time Public Health Nurse.

 

  1. Male candidates should have passed the alternate course prescribed by INC in place of Midwifery.

 

  1. Should be medically fit.

 

  1. All candidates who gain admission have to submit the eligibility certificate from the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai at the time of final registration for admission.

 

III. POST BASIC DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES (12 MONTHS)

 

    1. Must be a Registered Nurse

 

    1. Must have had a minimum or 1 year experience as Staff Nurse.

 

SPONSORSHIP

 

Sponsorship is a privilege where by weightage is given to candidates during selection.  The sponsored students are expected to understand the spirit of service and compassion for the less fortunate, which is integral to CMC.

 

During selection weightage is given to students sponsored by Diocese / Missionary organizations which are members of the CMC Vellore Association, and have been granted sponsorship privileges.  Sponsorship application forms are available with offices of these organizations and Diocese.  Sponsorship forms will not be given directly to the candidate from the College of Nursing.

 

ELIGIBILITY FOR SPONSORSHIP

 

For M.Sc. Nursing course to be eligible for sponsorship, candidates who have passed Basic B.Sc. Nursing should have served for a minimum of 3 years (including internship) in a supporting mission hospital after graduation. 

 

But for candidates applying for M.Sc. after B.Sc. Nursing for Trained Nurses, their experience in a supporting mission hospital after their Diploma Nursing will be taken into consideration.  So P.C. B.Sc. graduates applying for sponsorship should enclose experience certificate in mission hospitals after their Diploma Nursing Programme. 

For B.Sc (Nursing) course for Trained Nurses only those candidates who have served for a minimum of 4 years (including internship) in a supporting mission hospital after graduation are eligible for sponsorship.

 

Candidates who do not meet the above criteria will be treated as open even if they are sponsored by a sponsoring body.

 

In return for the privilege of weightage in selection, sponsored candidates will have to serve in the hospitals or outreach medical work of their sponsoring body for a specific period of time (not less than two years) fixed by that organization, immediately after the completion of their study programme. For this the candidate must sign a service undertaking with the sponsoring body.  A copy of this undertaking is to be sent to the College of Nursing along with the sponsorship form by the sponsoring body.

 

If the service of a sponsored candidate cannot be used by the sponsoring body, he/she should not be released by the sponsoring body but his/her contract must be transferred to CMC.

               

COMPLETED SPONSORSHIP FORMS SHOULD REACH THE REGISTRAR, COLLEGE OF NURSING, CHRISTIAN MEDICAL COLLEGE TOWN CAMPUS, DR. IDA SCUDDER ROAD, VELLORE – 632 004.  NOT LATER THAN 9th MARCH 2004.  FORMS RECEIVED AFTER THIS DATE WILLNOT BE ENTERTAINED.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   

SELECTION PROCESS

 

I. M.Sc NURSING AND B.Sc NURSING FOR TRAINED NURSES

 

Candidates who have applied for M.Sc and B.Sc (N) for Trained Nurses will have to appear for a written test in the College of Nursing, Vellore on the specified dates. 

 

There will be a preliminary selection committee meeting following the entrance exam to select a limited number of candidates for the final interview.  Those who are called for interview will appear for the interview on the specified dates.  The list of candidates selected for the programmes will be notified the day after the interview.

 

CANDIDATES COMING FOR THE INTERVIEW SHOULD BRING WITH THEM ALL THE RELEVANT CERTIFICATES IN ORIGINAL.  CANDIDATES WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL CERTIFICATES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND THE INTERVIEW.

 

For M.Sc (Nursing) at least 50% of the seats in each speciality are reserved for sponsored candidates provided they fulfill other criteria for eligibility for admission.  The waiting list is based on ranking in the final score. 

 

ALL SELECTED CANDIDATES WHO WISH TO ACCEPT THE M.SC/B.SC. NURSING SEAT OFFERED MUST GIVE THEIR ACCEPTANCE IN WRITING NOT LATER THAN 20th  APRIL 2004 OTHERWISE THE SEAT WILL BE OFFERED TO THE NEXT CANDIDATE ON THE WAITING LIST.

 

All candidates selected for M.Sc./B.Sc. for Trained Nurses must report to the Dean's Office to register for admission with the prescribed fees and the original certificates on 17 May 2004 at    8.00 am. 

 

II. POST BASIC DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES IN NURSING

 

There is no entrance test or interview for Post Diploma Programmes. The candidates selected for the programmes will be intimated by post by 20th April 2004. All programmes are of one year duration and require full time attendance. The selected candidates have to report to the Dean’s office on 28th May 2004 at 8.00 am to undergo a medical checkup. Registration will be done on 1st June 2004 at 8.00 am subject to medical fitness.

 

All documents should be submitted in original at the time of registration for admission.

 

PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE:

 

Candidates should obtain an eligibility certificate from THE TAMIL NADU DR.M.G.R. MEDICAL UNIVERSITY, CHENNAI BY APPLYING TO THE REGISTRAR, Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, No.69, Anna Salai, Guindy, Chennai - 600032 on the prescribed application form (costing Rs.25/-) which is available at the above address after remitting the prescribed fees to the University.

 

a.       The application shall be entertained by the Academic Officer normally on or after 1st April of the Academic year of admission except for foreign nationals who can apply earlier.

 

b.      All applications submitted in person will be disposed off within 3 days from the time of receipt of the application by the University.

 

c.       Required fee for issuing ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE is

 

i.         For recognition of examinations conducted by Universities / Boards within India: M.Sc Nursing.    

                             Rs.800/- B.Sc for trained nurses - Rs.500/-

 

ii.       For recognition of examination conducted by Universities / Boards outside India - Rs.3000/- 

 

d.      The following should be submitted along with the completed application form to the Registrar, Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai.

i.         Nursing Certificates - Diploma & Degree B.Sc. (N)/ B.Sc. for Trained Nurses (in original) issued by the authority who has conducted the qualifying examination.

ii.       Statement of marks (in original) issued by the authority who has conducted the qualifying examination.

iii.      Experience certificate.

iv.     Registration certificates (in original) - General Nursing & Midwifery /Alternate course.

 

e.       Photostat / Xerox copies of all the documents must be enclosed along with the application in addition to the originals.  The originals will be returned along with Eligibility Certificate retaining the Xerox / Photostat copies.

f.        An account payee Demand Draft for Rs.500/800 or Rs.3000/- as the case may be, drawn in favour of REGISTRAR, TAMILNADU DR.M.G.R. MEDICAL UNIVERSITY, CHENNAI.

g.       A self-addressed envelope stamped to the value of Rs.33/- for sending the certificate by registered post.

 

The candidates are advised to allow at least 10 - 15 days for obtaining the Eligibility Certificate by post.  If any of their original certificates are in a language other than English, they are strongly advised to also send an English translation of the same, duly attested by a Gazetted Officer.

 

The Eligibility Certificate should be submitted at the time of registration for admission to the course on 17th May 2004.
