SPONSORSHIP
Sponsorship is a privilege where by weightage is given to candidates during selection. The sponsored students are expected to understand the spirit of service and compassion for the less fortunate, which is integral to CMC.
During selection weightage is given to students sponsored by Diocese / Missionary organizations which are members of the CMC Vellore Association, and have been granted sponsorship privileges. Sponsorship application forms are available with offices of these organizations and Diocese. Sponsorship forms will not be given directly to the candidate from the College of Nursing.
ELIGIBILITY FOR SPONSORSHIP
a. For M.Sc. Nursing course to be eligible for sponsorship, candidates who have passed Basic
B.Sc. Nursing should have served for a minimum of 3 years (including internship) in a supporting
mission hospital after graduation. But for candidates applying for M.Sc. after B.Sc. Nursing for
Trained Nurses, their experience in a supporting mission hospital after their Diploma Nursing will
be taken into consideration. So P.C. B.Sc. graduates applying for sponsorship should enclose
experience certificate in mission hospitals after their Diploma Nursing and Midwifery
Programme.
b. For B.Sc Nursing for Trained Nurses course, candidates who have served for a minimum of
3 years (including internship) in a supporting mission hospital after graduation from Diploma
Nursing and Midwifery programme are only eligible for sponsorship.
c. For Fellowships in Nursing, only those candidates who have served for a
minimum of 1 year (including internship) in a supporting mission hospital after graduation from
B.Sc.Nursing / B.Sc.Nursing for Trained Nurses programme are eligible for sponsorship.
d. For Post Basic Diploma programmes in Nursing, only those candidates who have served for a
minimum of 1 year (including internship) in a supporting mission hospital after graduation of
Diploma Nursing and Midwifery or Basic B.Sc.Nursing or B.Sc.Nursing for Trained Nurses
programme are eligible for sponsorship.
Candidates who do not meet the above criteria will be treated as open even if they are
sponsored by a sponsoring body.
In return for the privilege of weightage in selection, sponsored candidates will have to serve in the hospitals or outreach medical work of their sponsoring body for a specific period of time (not less than two years) fixed by that organization, immediately after the completion of their study programme. For this the candidate must sign a service undertaking with the sponsoring body. A copy of this undertaking is to be sent to the College of Nursing along with the sponsorship form by the sponsoring body.
Sponsorship will be on the basis of the need of the Sponsoring Body to have trained personnel for their mission work. The sponsoring body must give an undertaking that a post will be available when the candidate graduates. NO FEES OR DONATION are to be paid for this other than the stipulated registration fee for sponsorship which should not exceed Rs.250/-.
The service obligation for sponsorship should only be in terms of service and not financial compensation.
Students who do not fulfill the service obligation will not be eligible for admission to any further postgraduate studies or appointment as the staff of Christian Medical College, Vellore. They will not be given any certificates other than those statutorily mandated by the University and the State Nursing Council.
